Mon Quotidien Names Luke Culhane Child of the Year

French Newspaper Mon Quotidien names Luke Culhane “Child of the Year” for 2016. Luke belongs to Limerick. He is just 13, a teenager. But his maturity level is incredibly high. This was apparently visible in last February. It was about a video that he created about awareness around cyberbullying. The title of his video is “Cyber Bullying: Create No Hate”. Mon Quotidien is a popular newspaper in France. After the release of this video, the newspaper has conducted a survey. Since its release, the video got quite popular. In fact, many of the viewers of this video from various corners of the globe could correlate it with themselves. 20% of Mon Quotidien readers participating in this survey feel that Luke is the most deserving candidate for this title.

As a matter of fact, many voters feel that Luke deserves “Child of the Year” title for his substantial effort. They share their own experience of how this video could help them in their own lives. Like, one young woman writes to the paper, “His story found a way of fighting back without violence thanks to his video. It’s a very effective method. I hope that it will help other victims.”

Luke explains his reasons for making the video in February last year. He says, “I have been cyber-bullied myself so that inspired me to make this video to help raise awareness for other people about how to handle cyber-bullying.” He further adds, “I wanted to show that it doesn’t have to be physical bullying to hurt someone so that’s why I showed the likeness between the two types of bullying. I felt that “Safer Internet Day” was an appropriate time to release this video to create discussion around the issue.”
